A member of the New York & Connecticut Bars since 1989,
Valerie began her career as a real estate and transactional lawyer
in New York City at the Park Avenue law firm, Battle Fowler.
After leaving the firm, she worked in real estate and general practice
on Long Island. She spent a year as Village Attorney in Greenport
while working at a small firm in Hauppauge, and in 1995 opened her solo practice.
Valerie continues to specialize her practice in real estate, land use,
and zoning matters, and offers mediation and collaborative law services
for companies, partnerships, organizations and families
on the North and South Forks, Shelter Island and the greater New York area.
Valerie is among a growing number of legal professionals who describe themselves as
“contemplative lawyers.” Informed by years of yoga and meditation, Valerie has found that her contemplative practices have improved her concentration and creativity, as well as help her
to develop clarity, self-awareness and understanding of others.
Calling on her contemplative practice, Valerie partners with her clients in examining and working through each legal issue and decision with clarity; helping them to discover the possibilities,
obstacles and realities of their situation. She has a rapport with her colleagues and other
professionals derived from her capacity to communicate authentically and clearly with a full understanding of what is at stake and what is needed to come to an agreement or resolution
– bringing her skills as facilitator and her many years of legal experience to each transaction.
